I’m more than a little overwhelmed when I look back at all that God has done in our lives and our family over the past year. It’s hard to believe that it was only 9 months ago that Dawn and I went to Exponential in Orlando to explore the calling we felt God had put on our hearts to start a church in Holly Springs. Just 3 months later we were starting the residency at Brentwood Baptist here in Nashville. Shortly after we came to Nashville, Bailey started Kindergarten and has made some great friends and is already reading books by herself. She has lost several teeth is growing way faster than Dawn and I are even close to being comfortable with!
I’m continually humbled and amazed that God picked us to serve Him in this way and has given us this unbelievable opportunity to learn and grow in such an amazing church. He has shown us so much and it has been such a wonderful blessing to meet so many great people and make some new lifelong friends. Every once in a while reality sets in a little and we are blown away that we are actually here and going on this wild journey!
Over the past 5 months of the residency, God has shown us some key pieces of His vision for the church He is leading us to start in Holly Springs. As you know, we have a name – LifeSpring Church – rooted in the story of the woman at the well in John 4. We just recently completed the 12th and final core competency in our Launch training. This training has been instrumental in helping us think through the strategies, systems, and skills we will need to plant a thriving and reproducing church. The result is that we have discovered and developed the major pieces of the vision (our purpose statement, core values, the basic discipleship strategy, and the measures of what success will look like) as well as some of the specific details like what kind of leadership structure and teams we will need, how decisions will be made, what our budget will look like, and much more. Our Articles of Incorporation have been approved and we are well on our way to completing all the requirements to receive our official 501(c)3 status. (We can already accept tax deductible donations since the non-profit status will be retroactive to when the Articles of Incorporation were approved by the state of NC.) Of course, there’s much more that I could share and in much more detail but it’s safe to say that God has done more than we could have imagined over the past year!
What’s even more amazing is that we only halfway through the residency! The next few months we go by faster than we think and before we know it, we will be finished with the residency and headed back to Holly Springs ready to hit the ground running!
We had an awesome visit recently to Raleigh where we got to see a lot of our close friends and share some of the preliminary vision! We had such a great time, but wish we could have stayed longer and seen more people. We are planning another longer trip to Raleigh in March when Bailey has spring break and we look forward to seeing more friends and sharing more vision!
Thank you so much for continuing to follow our journey and for your prayers, support, and encouragement! It really means more than you could know!
