Dawn & Bailey having lunch @ school

It’s hard to believe that we have been here in Nashville for a month already! Bob (who is the head of the residency program) told us that this year was going to fly by and I certainly believe it!  We are finally settled in and have at least an idea of what “normal” is going to be like for the next 10 months. Life is definitely still busy with all that we have going on but not overly hectic so far.

Bailey’s second week of school has been much better than her first! At the beginning of the week she was still complaining about tummy aches every morning and wanted Dawn to walk her all the way to class. But today there was no tummy ache and Dawn just walked her to the front door of the school and she was ok with going to her class without mommy. She has her first oral presentation at school today which she has been working on and practicing all week. It’s really just her introducing herself to the class using a picture collage Dawn helped her make. She was a little nervous about it, but she was ready so we will let you know how it goes and we appreciate your prayers for her!

Dawn is still looking for a part time job and has been applying several different places but hasn’t gotten any responses yet. We are trusting God that He will bring the right job at the right place at the right time. Meanwhile it has been nice for her to have more time with Bailey and I, get the house here set up like she wants it, exercise, run errands, and even relax at the pool!

There are two things we have been focusing on this week with our training. First is the database we have to create with every church and religious group in the greater Nashville area. Second, we have been doing a lot of reading and continuing to work through a process to discover the vision that God has for the church He is calling each of us to plant. This has been a challenging and affirming process as we have wrestled with some tough questions and had some exciting conversations leading to some moments of real clarity. I’m reminded once again that this is a huge reason why we are here. It’s awesome to have the opportunity to think through, wrestle with, and discuss these kinds of things together in a place where that’s the whole reason we’re here! I can’t wait to share more with you as the vision becomes more and more clear!

This week has been a great week of confirmation and blessing! We have received some very sweet cards and even a gift from one of the students! God’s timing is perfect and He knows what we need before we even know we need it. Right about the time we were beginning to feel homesick for North Carolina and missing our dear friends there, these things came in the mail.

If that weren’t enough, God poured out even more blessing! On Monday I had a meeting with the TRAIN guys (Bob, Steve, and Brian) and we were sharing how everything is going so far with the adjustment to Nashville, the kids, our wives, jobs, finances, etc. During that conversation, I shared that Dawn is still looking for a job to help bring in some supplemental income.  We also received some disappointing news about some support that had fallen through. That prompted Bob to check and see what we had in our Brentwood account from those who have sent in financial gifts through the church. I was amazed to discover that there was enough there to help cover the gap in our monthly expenses for about 3 months!

We praise God and thank you for your generous financial gifts, encouragement, cards, and your prayers! I can’t tell you how much of a blessing you are to our family! I wish we could send a thank you card or even call each of you who have given, but unfortunately they won’t give us that information as all gifts have to remain anonymous. So all I can do is praise God for you and say THANK YOU here on the blog and hope those of you who have given so generously know how much of a blessing you are to us! I can’t imagine taking this step of faith without the love and support of our family and friends. Thank you again for blessing us in so many wonderful ways!

Between now and next week I hope to do a couple of quick, short blogs about a couple verses that God has been using in a huge way over the past couple of weeks. The verses are John 4:13-14 and Acts 9:31. Be on the lookout!

Thank you again for your prayers and support! Please let us know how we can be praying for you also. Here are some ways you can be praying for us this week…

  • Bailey to continue to make friends and enjoy school and church
  • Bailey’s 6th birthday is Sept. 30th and we are working on the plans for her party
  • Dawn looking for a part time job
  • We are in the process of getting health insurance
  • Time management to get all of the work done for the residency this week
  • Safety and health as we travel to Atlanta this weekend for Labor Day to spend time with family
  • That God will continue to reveal His vision for the church He is calling us to plant
  • That He will already begin preparing the hearts of those in Holly Springs and speak to those He wants to partner with us in launching this new church
  • That we will build relationships with our neighbors here and have the opportunity to share Christ with them

We love you, miss you, and hope to hear from you soon!
